Project Readiness and Performance Reviews

CCG has recognized experience in assisting owners with project readiness reviews, often utilized as an independent third party during such reviews. These reviews are often performed as a part of the phase-gate process employed by owners; with the reviews occurring as part of the gate reviews required for the project to proceed to the next phase of project development, and ultimately for project authorization. The reviews address many important topics such as 1) ensuring that design and engineering have progressed to the maturity required; 2) evaluating the adequacy of the current project estimate and schedule (including cost/schedule integration); 3) proper identification and assessment of project risks and risk responses; and 4) ensuring that the project is adequately prepared for the next stage of project development, with all controls in place.

CCG also has experience in conducting performance reviews during project execution. This is a very dynamic and challenging time for the project, and on-going performance reviews are used to ensure that all project execution activities comply with project plans, processes, policies and procedures. Adequacy of all project control mechanisms, including change management and ongoing risk assessment, should be evaluated to ensure that project progress and performance reports reflect reality, and that project forecasts for both cost and schedule are accurate. These reviews should also incorporate updated assessments of project risks with the goal of maximizing potential opportunities, and removing or minimizing threats to project success.

Both project readiness and project performance reviews can improve results for the current project; but are also important for the identification of lessons learned that can be applied to future projects. The goal should be that every project contributes to the effectiveness of future projects. Establishing processes that review and measure effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle can contribute to maximizing investment performance across the enterprise.
